NO Singaporeans were hurt in the major earthquake that shook Japan on Friday, said a Minstry of Foreign Affairs spokesman.
As of 6pm Singapore time on Friday, the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo has not received any reports of Singaporeans injured in the 8.9 magnitude quake or its ensuing tsunamis.

The MFA spokesman said the Ministry has activated its Emergency Contact Network (ECN) system and will continue to establish contact with registered Singaporeans in the affected areas.
MFA assures Singaporeans they are 'closely monitoring the situation and will render the necessary consular assistance to affected Singaporeans.'
